AVENUE OF THE GLACIERS - SENO DE AGOSTINI
Glacier Route – Agostini Fjord, Tierra del Fuego
In the heart of the Darwin Mountains, where the Andes plunge into the ocean, lies the imposing Agostini Fjord. This remote corner of Chile's Tierra del Fuego offers one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the far south, where nature manifests itself with power and majesty. Sailing through this fjord means venturing into a unique scenic route: the Glacier Route.
Águila Glacier: a colossus among mountains
One of the highlights of the tour is the Águila Glacier, which plunges from the high glaciers of the mountain range into a protected cove. Its tongue of ice descends between walls of rock, and the serene surroundings allow for a privileged approach by Zodiac, ideal for observing the structure of the ice and its celestial hues. Flocks of cormorants and sea lions often accompany the spectacle.
Condor Glacier: The Force in Motion
Continuing our voyage, we come across the more dynamic and vertical Condor Glacier. Its steep drop toward the sea makes it one of the most active glaciers in the area. From the fjord, you can clearly see large blocks of ice calving off, generating thunderous sounds that shatter the surrounding silence. It's common to see condors soaring over the rocky ridges that flank the ice, giving this magnificent glacier its name.
Other glaciers and landscapes at the end of the world
The Glacier Route also includes numerous hanging glaciers and unnamed secondary glaciers, which are part of this labyrinth of mountains and channels shaped by ancient ice. On clear days, it's possible to see snow-capped peaks over 2,000 meters high and enjoy the rich biodiversity of Alberto de Agostini National Park, which protects these pristine ecosystems. Southern dolphins, elephant seals, and a wide variety of seabirds often appear along the way.
